Gothic Kyiv: 6 Neo-Gothic Landmarks Worth Seeing
Six Gothic landmarks in Kyiv:
1) Castle of Richard the Lionheart. This is the popular name for the British Neo-Gothic building at 15 Andriivskyi Descent. It was built at the very beginning of the 20th century, originally as an apartment building.

2) The Knight's House (also known as the Knight's Refuge or Baron Steingel's Castle) at 1 Yaroslaviv Val Street. It was built in the late 19th century by the Polish landowner Michał Podhorski, who lived here for the last two years of his life.

3) The Modzelevskyi family mansion (also known as the Tereshchenko family mansion), a unique blend of Gothic and Oriental styles at 34 Taras Shevchenko Boulevard. It too was built in the late 19th century as a residence.

4) The Baron Ikskul-Hildenbandt House (also known as the Pink Castle) at 19 Shovkovychna Street. This is pure Gothic. A former apartment building, it was built in the early 20th century.

5) St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, built in the early 20th century. It became home to the National House of Organ and Chamber Music, which hosted classical concerts. Address: 75 Velyka Vasylkivska Street.

6) We end our journey at the place where every journey ends. Our last stop is the Catholic Gate, one of the four entrances to Baikove Cemetery at 6 Baikova Street. The Latin inscription on the gate reads "Beati mortui qui in Domino moriuntur" ("Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord").
