  • Andriivskyi UzvizSt Andrew's Church by Roger FentonOne of the earliest known photographs of Kyiv: St Andrew's Church above a snowy slope. British photographer Roger Fenton came here in 1852 to document the construction of Charles Vignoles' Chain Bridge. Rastrelli's church still stands, and the lane below it became Andriivskyi Uzviz. On the right, the view from Kontraktova Square in 2026: the slope below the church is now built up, and from Podil it rises above the rooftops.Archival photo: Роджер Фентон, 1852, Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
